Topic: "Energy Engineering in the Design Process"

Presented by Michael Rogers, PE, LEED AP, HFDP - VP, Principal-In-Charge,  NV5

Course Description:
Too often, the topics of energy and sustainability do not become part of the conversation until a project is already well underway.  This course will help you understand the importance of including an “energy mindset” from the moment a new project comes to life.  As the market, legislation, and technology focusing on energy engineering grow, the need to learn more about this topic increases as well.  During this program, you will hear directly from Energy Engineers who will discuss effective ways to introduce energy efficient design at the start of a project and maintain this focus throughout the duration of the project. This interactive session will also include a detailed data center case study on energy simulations and how to calculate estimated annual energy use, identify potential utility incentives, and run lifecycle costs for various types of cooling systems.

Learning Objective #1

Understand the importance of discussing energy efficiency at the beginning of a project

Learning Objective #2

Discuss how and where to target energy savings and how this knowledge can be used during building design

Learning Objective #3

Explore proven areas that target energy savings such as heating and Cooling, lighting,  and other important areas that determine office fuel consumption

Learning Objective #4

Learn about the benefits that Energy Engineering can provide in regard to procuring costs savings for clients, ensuring compliance with code, and protecting the environment
